Just received the 2010 census form and after reviewing it I answered with the number of people, the sex of said persons and the age.

Amendment XIV, Section 2, says the age and sex of each person is required in accordance with US Constitution.

So as far as I can tell these are the only three things required by law. If anyone has different or conflicting info on this let me know.

If you have not received your census form you will be overjoyed to read the statements enclosed which include “The amount of government money your neighborhood receives also depends on these answers”

GOVERNMENT MONEY?????????

We are at WAR!

I looked into it Bob and

I looked into it Bob and found verbage requiring that any question asked be answered.  The only reference that I could find was: Title 13, Sec. 221.

"Title 13

Sec. 221. Refusal or neglect to answer questions; false answers

(a) Whoever, being over eighteen years of age refuses or willfully neglects, when requested by the Secretary, or by any other authorized officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof acting under the instructions of the Secretary or authorized officer, to answer, to the best of his knowledge, any of the questions on any schedule submitted to him in connection with any census or survey provided for by subchapters I, II, IV, and V of chapter 5 of this title, applying to himself or to the family to which he belongs or is related, or to the farm or farms of which he or his family is the occupant, shall be fined not more than $100.

(b) Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a) of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is false, shall be fined not more than $500. (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, no person shall be compelled to disclose information relative to his religious beliefs or to membership in a religious body."

After re-reading I found it queer that the word "any" is used in a context that I would think best served by the word "all".  I only answered the constitutionally required questions and will be expecting the $100.00 fine.

Yes, I read the Title 13 nonsense which is supposed to be under challenge right now. The info I got was from Ron Paul writings on the census. The video links are good, posing well thought out questions.

Other than giving the number of people, age and sex it is an invasion of privacy. I filled mine out with this info and I’m done. I really hope people everywhere will do the same. If they fine me 100.00 I’ll pay them in those new worthless pennies and they can be on their way…

census

10 years ago I answered the 2000 census with one single digit - number of people in household.  Never got fined, but did get a visit from a census taker.  I told her I had mailed mine in, she said "they" did not have record of receiving it.  This time I am going to make copies of my single digit page, and send it in signed receipt requested so I have something to hand the next census taker when they come by this year.  Perhaps I should also hand them a copy of the legal requirement?   it is time to rebel in any and every way we can.  Step up and take action, start with the census!

Census

This is from a concerned citizen - I do not know the original author of this piece, but I copy it here for informational purposes:

The Census is Coming - Know Your Rights

Section 2 of the 14th amendment to our Constitution states:
"Representatives shall be apportioned among the several states according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each state, ..." It further states that such representation can be reduced in proportion to the number of "male inhabitants of such State, being twenty one years of age, ..." whose right to vote is in any way abridged.

That is the only Constitutional mandate regarding the Census. Since Article I, Section 8 does not state that "Congress shall have Power To ask about the number of toilets in the homes of American citizens and demand that they answer", and the 10th Amendment specifically states that any powers not delegated to the United States are reserved to the states and the people, any information that the Census asks beyond that required by the Constitution is an illegal invasion of privacy.

For the past four Censuses I have answered only how many persons reside in my home. This time I will add how many are males over the age of 20. I have received followup letters and visits from Census bureaucrats demanding that I answer their additional questions "under penalty of law" and I have ignored them. I have done the same thing with questionnaires directed to my business. To my knowledge, no one has ever been prosecuted or fined for refusing to answer the additional questions asked by the Census. I believe they know that they are on shaky legal ground. They use intimidation - don't let them get away with it.

From all appearances, the Census will be even more invasive and aggressive in 2010 than in the past. Here is a statement that I found that might be useful to have on hand if a Census worker insists you answer more than that required by our Constitution:

Declaration To Make To Census Takers:

"I hereby affirm that the provisions of Title 13 requiring me to disclose my race, personal financial data, birth date, or any other personal, private information to the Bureau of the Census, an agency of the United States government, constitutes an unreasonable, unwarranted search of my person, house, papers, and/or effects, and a governmental invasion of the sanctity of my home and the privacies of life. As such, these provisions violate the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution, and are thus wholly void and I am not bound to obey them.

I have completed only those sections of the Census form pertaining to the Constitutionally-mandated actual enumeration, as follows:

1. The actual number of people living at the address printed on the form, excluding untaxed Native Americans;
2. The actual number of males living at the address printed on the form that are over the age of 20.

I have thus fulfilled my obligation to the attainment of the actual enumeration of the populace of the United States. Any fine or other sanction that is levied by any office or organization stemming from the unconstitutional provisions of Title 13 in connection with my response to this or any other Census-related questioning will be challenged in a court of law."
