HEALTHCARE THE FOCUS OF
AUGUST 15 GENERAL MEETING

DR. ERIC FRUITS, Featured Speaker
Topic:
The Economics of Proposed Healthcare Reform Legislation

Dr. Fruits is an economic researcher and President of his company, Economics International Corporation, ww.econinternational.com/. He is also an adjunct Professor at Portland State University. Among the courses he teaches is State and Local Finance.

Just prior to speaking at our meeting, Dr. Fruits will be attending an emergency meeting at the Cato Institute (www.cato.org/) in Washington D.C. to address economic concerns about the Healthcare reform plans being considered by Congress.

PETITIONS – If you have not had an opportunity to sign the petitions to put the two detrimental tax measures (HR 2649 and HR 3405) passed by the State Legislature in June, Randy Kainz will have them available at the meeting. You must be an active, registered voter.

RALLY AFTER THE MEETING at the corner of Kruse Way and 217, so bring a lunch and your rally sign. It’s a great time to become acquainted with fellow 912ers and to let the public see that they are not alone!

DON’T FORGET YOUR CARDS
AND GOODIES FOR
CHARLIE CO., 7TH BATTALION
158TH AVIATION UNIT

Sue Hewson, organizer of our troop support effort, reports that we’ve received our first thank you card from Natalie Miller & Vince Almberg.  She will bring them to the meeting for everyone to see. Sabrina Vasquez, daughter of 912 members Paul and Coy, extends her heartfelt thanks for keeping her battalion in our thoughts.  Sabrina has flown a flag for us on a recent mission and will be sending it to us shortly.

We shipped out 10 boxes last month. Let’s try to equal or surpass that this month. Ask family and friends to write a card or note for you to bring.

In a her most recent blog, Sabrina writes: August is finally here. The hottest month in any country, and I get to spend it in Iraq where the temperatures are going to reach anywhere from 110. . . and a soaring 130. . . The dust is so hard to predict; it changes faster than Oregon weather. Though I would gladly accept the ever-changing clouds, sun, rain, well anything from home would be nice here.

If you are new to our group, visit our TROOP SUPPORT page to learn all about Sabrina and her unit that is serving in Iraq, read her blog, and view a list of items the troops especially appreciate. You’ll even be able to download cookie recipes.

ORGANIZING FOR ACTION
HELP NEEDED ASAP!

We are now preparing to move our organization to the next level as committees are organizing to focus on specific tasks.  As you know, “we the people” have many daunting challenges before us in our effort to take back our country.  It takes the efforts of more than a few people to properly organize and respond to the almost daily assaults on the principles and values that have been the foundation of our great republic for over 200 years.

If you have already indicated your willingness to serve in some capacity, you will be contacted in the near future or be alerted to committees that are being formed and given contact information to sign on. If you want to be proactive about finding a niche, contact: ANNE BROWN - 503-314-9804. Anne has offered to help match volunteer desires and skills to organization needs.

For a complete list of Oregon 912 Board Members, Committees and what kind of help is needed, please go to: Organization   You can use the Contact Us form to let us know where you’d like to contribute your talents; your message will be patched to the appropriate person or committee. Thank you in advance for whatever support you can give. Please refer to the July 24 News Bulletin for specific requests by several committee chairpersons – Marketing, Legislation, and 2010 Elections.

UPCOMING EVENTS

JOHN ADAMS HBO SERIES FINALE

JOIN US FOR EPISODES 6 AND 7
TUESDAY, AUGUST 18, 7:30 PM
AT MILLENNIUM PLAZA PARK, LAKE OSWEGO

You’re in luck! Due to rain, you have a second chance to watch the final episodes—and enjoy Sheri MacDowell’s yummy homemade cookies!  An average of about 60 people have gathered weekly to sit beneath the stars with like-minded people and relive the birth of our country--it’s a very special and binding experience. We’ve met and shared with many new people, some of whom are now fellow 912ers.  We’re thinking about showing the series again in January and February—maybe we can find a venue with a fireplace!

HELP NEEDED WITH PRINTING FLIERS!

Bob Pletka has been doing all of our printing for us—a tremendous commitment for which we are extremely grateful. We have two huge events listed below at which we will be distributing fliers and business cards to make people aware of Oregon 912 Project.  We are looking at attendance between the two events numbering close to 10,000 people.  Between printing, setting up our sound system at all our events, developing sales items and participating in all meetings and outside events as well as running his own business and performing with his band, Bob’s “free time” is about maxed out! Bob can provide the paper. We will be printing half-sheet fliers that will need to be cut. If you are able to help print a quantity of the fliers, you can pick up paper from Bob at the meeting Saturday or give him a call at 503-503-659-7401 to make arrangements. Advance Thanks!

TAX REFERRAL TEA PARTY
September 7 – Pioneer Courthouse Square
Gather at 5pm; begin at 6pm

What better way to celebrate Labor Day than to petition our government to enable citizens to keep more of the fruits of their labor!  Join the Oregon Tea Party and other like-minded groups to stand up for liberty and the hard-working Americans who are the backbone of our great nation. We must collect enough valid signatures to refer Salem's latest job-killing taxes to Oregon's voters in January 2010.

VANCOUVER-PORTLAND
PATRIOT RALLY
Saturday, September 12th, 2009 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM
              Vancouver Landing Amphitheatre
         100 Columbia Street, Vancouver, Washington

Join 912ers and fellow patriot groups to celebrate the great awakening that has taken place across America this past year! The day will have very special meaning for 912ers as we celebrate the six-month anniversary of the inception of the 912 movement nationwide. Glenn Beck will be covering celebrations across the country; hopefully, we can make enough noise to attract his attention. Efforts are being made to make Glenn aware of Bob Pletka’s song “We Surround Them”, which will be featured at the Patriot Rally.

The Amazing Grace Tall Ship will make her maiden voyage on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. The legendary colonial patriot Thomas Paine will deliver a special message and narrate a reenactment of the original Boston Tea Party.

We the Band and other great artists will perform newly released songs.

This is a non-partisan event that will be filled
with patriotic music, and fun for everyone young and old.

Cost: Free Community Event!

RECENT EVENTS

MAKING OF AMERICA SEMINAR

Thank you to Joe Harper for organizing and promoting an inspiring day of exploring the history and foundational principles that guided our Founding Fathers in carving out a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”  Forty-eight attentive participants were not disappointed by the professional presentation of the instructor from the National Center for Constitutional Studies.  We’ll let you know when we reprise the event.
